First Day Hikes are a nationwide initiative to get everyone out to a local park and enjoy the outdoors. Find a 2022 First Day Hike at Texas State Park and enjoy some time outside.
Some events are guided, most are self-guided, but you may also have an opportunity for fun stickers and more.

This First Day Hike is limited to 15 participants. Registration will be open on Dec. 18, 2021 (9 am) and close on Dec. 30, 2021 (4 pm) (or sooner as slots will fill up fast). Must be preregistered, no walk-ins.

Let’s start the New Year’s resolutions off on the right hiking foot! Join us to work up a sweat and burn some calories while taking in the splendors of Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument and Franklin Mountains State Park.
Brazos Bend State Park
Start the New Year off on the right foot and join in the annual First Day Hike at Brazos Bend State Park on Jan. 1 at 40 Acre Lake Trail (1.2 mile), starting at 8 am and goes until noon. First Day Hike stickers will be available while supplies last.

Village Creek State ParkStart
2022 off on the right, and left, foot! Join the rangers at Village Creek State Park as we get outside on New Year’s Day for annual First Day Hike events. This year you can choose your own adventure with guided activities (reservations required) or all day self-guided, family-friendly fun.
Lost Maples State Natural Area
Start 2022 with a First Day Hike searching for a Monkey Rock, a cool Grotto, a scenic overlook, and an optional polar plunge in the spring fed pond.
Lake Whitney State Park
New Year’s First Scavenger Hunt Hike
Let’s celebrate 2022 by exploring the park with family and friends on a 1-mile hike. You may enjoy the extra challenge of finding three hidden holiday posters along our Two Bridges Trail. Take pictures with your phone or digital camera of someone from your group next to the three posters to claim a prize at headquarters.
